    MS Word 365 106: Sharing Info, Cross Referencing, & Advanced Editing Tools

    These are the features you’ll find most useful when you’re having to write a long document such as a term paper, a thesis, or a novel.

    Prerequisites:

    1. You should be proficient with the features discussed in Word 356 101 (Getting Started).
    2. In order to maximize the learning benefits of this class, basic proficiency in PowerPoint® and Excel is a “plus,” although attending the related 101 sessions is not required.

    Here’s what you can expect to learn:

    • How to set Tabs
    • How and why you’d work with bookmarks
    • How to create cross referencing links
    • How to create a Table of Contents (TOC) with tabs and bookmarks
    • How to troubleshoot said TOCs

    From there we’ll switch gears and move onto sharing data between the MSOffice applications with these three methods:

    • OLE (Object Linking and Embedding)
    • DDE (Dynamic Data Exchange)
    • Copy and Paste: No links

    Lastly, we’ll look at MS Word’s advanced editing tools:

    • Find and Replace
    • Auto Correct and Auto Text
    • Track Changes

    MS Word 365 107: Mail Merge

    If you ever need to print out a ton of address labels, or even print addresses on a stack of envelopes, this feature will be your lifesaver!

    Prerequisites:

    1. You should be proficient with the features discussed in Word 356 101 (Getting Started).

    This is probably the shortest outline ever. But don’t let that fool you; there’re a lot of steps involved.

    You will learn how to:

    • Set up a mail merge for labels and envelopes
    • Use mail merge if you’re using MS Outlook for your email

    MS Word 365 105: Outlining Features

    These are the features you’ll find most useful when you’re having to write a long document such as a term paper, a thesis, or a novel.

    MS Word 365 104: Document Formatting & Graphics

    The features in this class will really help you to add some flare to your flyer or newsletter.

    We’ll begin with theme options on the Design tab.

    • Explore the Theme group button
    • Talk about how to remove a Theme or document format
    • Override theme settings such as watermarks, page colors and borders

    Then we’ll explore:

    • Quick Parts and Building Blocks
    • Working with pictures and shapes
    • Smart Art
    • A bit more on Word Art
    • Symbols

    MS Word 365 103: Tables and Columns

    Many of the features you’ll learn in this lesson are helpful for creating documents that require special layouts such as financial reports, advertising flyers, or newsletters.

    In order to add some flare to your flyer or newsletter, I suggest you continue with Word 365 104: Document Formatting and Graphics.

    You will learn about:

    • Three type of “breaks” and when to use which type
    • How columns work and when to use them
    • How to work with tables
    • How to format tables

    MS PPT 365 104: Charting & Tables

    Knowing how to create or insert existing tables or charts can be a real time saver when creating your presentation. In order for you to get the most out of this lesson, it is strongly suggested you fulfill the prerequsites listed here. If I feel you are struggling with this material, it may be necessary to go through the prerequisites with you instead.

    Prerequisites:

    1. You must have a good grasp of the basic concepts of creating a presentation, inserting slides, and running a show, which are outlined in PowerPoint® 101.
    2. You should know how to use the basic drawing tools as well as the “grouping” concept discussed in PowerPoint® 102.
    3. PowerPoint® 103 covers animation effects that will be expanded upon in this session: Please know those concepts before attending this session.
    4. Knowledge of Excel Charting will be a “plus” in order to maximize the possible learning benefits of this session; however, attending the Excel 102 Charting class is not required.

    In this lesson I’ll teach you how to:

    • Insert a basic PPT chart
    • Activate the chart
    • Format charts
    • Work with the chart’s data sheet

    Then we get into Excel charts:

    • Three methods for importing Excel charts
    • Animation options for all

    MS PPT 365 103: Templates and Master Slide View

    This may seem like one of the more complex areas of PowerPoint, but after learning how it all works, you’ll be solving a TON of mysteries!

    You’ll learn:

    • What Themes (aka, Templates) are
    • More about page setup
    • Options for changing background colors using themes, fonts, and effects
    • Slide Master view options
    • More about sound effects

    MS PPT 365 101: Getting Started

    PowerPoint is one of the easiest Microsoft Office Applications. This lesson will get you through all the basics well enough to where you can create an effective PowerPoint Presentation when done.

    We’ll begin by getting you familiar with the screen:

    • The start up screen
    • Viewing options
    • Navigating the screen
    • Moving and deleting slides

    Then we get into creating your presentation:

    • All three methods to creating presentations
    • Creating, inserting new slides
    • Slide layouts
    • Creating and working with bullet slides
    • Formatting text and bullets on your slide

    Then the really fun stuff:

    • Adding transitions
    • Adding sounds
    • Setting transition speed
    • Setting up timings & rehearsing those
    • Defining your print options: It’s really handy to know how to print those speaker notes!

    MS Excel 365 103: Advanced Formulas

    Once you’re comfortable with the basics of how formulas are put together, these will actually be a piece of cake for you to master!

    BTW – If you’re not that comfortable with the three types of formulas, I strongly suggest you review the Excel 101 Course: Formatting and Formulas.

    We’ll begin with some settings and tips that will help you to really “see” and troubleshoot formulas:

    • Viewing formulas in your spreadsheet.
    • Setting up and working with the R1C1 reference option.
    • Using the SUM function button.
    • Learning the importance of how rows and cols behave in formula shortcuts.
    • Working with non-contiguous numbers in formulas.

    From there we’ll explore some of the more usefull funtion formulas:

    • COUNTA
    • COUNTIF
    • PMT (Pretty handy when you’re buying a car and want to know what the payments will be!)
    • IF (Aka, conditional formulas.)
    • NESTED IF (Use when you need to set multiple conditions in one formula.)
    • SUMIF (Adding numbers in a range of cells based on a condition.)
    • Then we move onto my favorite time saving tool: Named Ranges

    We’ll wrap up this lession with one of the more interesting (some say confusing) concepts when it comes to formulas:

    Abosulute vs. Relative

    At the very end there’s an appendix with some of the more common function type formulas. Once you feel comfortable with the previous funtions, you’ll find that having these in your hip pocket will be very handy.

    MS Excel 365 105: Database Functions

    Excel is what is known as a “flat file” database. That means that you can sort and extract data out of a single spreadsheet (vs. multiple spreadsheets), all based on criteria that you specify.

    BTW – If you’re not that comfortable with the three basic types of formulas, I strongly suggest you review the Excel 101 Course: Formatting and Formulas.

    We’ll begin by getting you familiar with some standard database terminology.

    Then we’ll introduce you to some easy database functions with which you might already be familiar:

    • Sorting data on a single field
    • Sorting data on multiple fields

    From there you’ll learn about some that may not be so familiar:

    • Applying basic auto-filters
    • Applying multiple auto-filters
    • Customizing auto-filters
    • Removing auto-filters
    • Setting up and applying subtotals

    Pivot Tables are next:

    • Pivot Tables: What are they and how can they work for you?
    • Set up: Specifying fields, rows and formulas
    • Editing and modifying your pivot table
    • Pivot table charting

    And we’ll wrap up this lesson with a couple more interesting Excel features:

    • Parcing data, aka, switching text to columns
    • Concantenate, aka, combining data from two fields into one

    MS Excel 365 104: Working with Mulitiple Sheets

    The true power of Excel is really magnified when you start working with Multiple Sheets within a single spreadsheet file.

    BTW – If you’re not that comfortable with the three types of formulas, I strongly suggest you review the Excel 101 Course: Formatting and Formulas.

    We’ll begin with the basics of finding the sheet tabs and then talk about:

    • Inserting and Deleting Sheets
    • Renaming Sheet Tabs
    • Changing Sheet Tab Colors
    • Moving Sheets

    From there we’ll have you start working with the grouping feature:

    • The Why and How to Group and Ungroup Multiple Sheets
    • Entering Data on Grouped Sheets
    • Formatting Cells and Data on Grouped Sheets

    Then onto the really cool way you can…

    • Link Multiple Sheets with Formulas
    • Link Multiple Files with Formulas

    Lastly, we’ll bring it all together with the very useful lookup function. That begins with:

    • Copy and Paste Values (Rather than Formulas)
    • Viewing Formulas
    • The R1C1 Reference Style
    • The VLookup Function

    MS Excel 365 102: Basic Charting Outline

    Charting in any application might be one of the most challenging tasks.

    In this lesson you’ll learn the one simple tip that takes all that confusion away. The light bulb will go off immediately and you’ll be volunteering to put everything in a chart.

    Here’s a run down on what’s gonna get you started on your way to becoming a charting expert:

    • The two basic chart types and why you would use one over the other.
    • The difference between the X and Y axis and why they are key to a good chart.
    • The importance of the “row” and “column” settings (Pay attention to this; it’s a key tip!).
    • How to actually read and be able to explain any chart to your audience. (This is a great skill to master!)
    • All kinds of formatting options so you can make the most professional-looking chart.
    • The difference between “embedding” a chart vs. a “page” chart and why you might use one over the other.
    • Some basic chart printing options.

    PC Basics 102: Windows Outline

    When you’re new to computers, it can be very confusing when it comes to trying to figure out what the mouse is doing when you cick in different parts of the screen.     PC Basics 103: Managing Your Files Outline

    There’s nothing more frustrating then spending hours on a document only to not be able to find it after you close it. UGH!

    This is the best course you’ll ever take when it comes to learning how files are store on your computer and having some control over it.

    Even though these things may sound boring at first, you’re going to be thrilled when the light bulb goes off in your head:

    MS Word 365 101: Getting Started

    Whether you’re brand new to Word, or you’ve been at it for a while, you’ll be joining many others who are surprised at how much this application can do. And bonus, how easy it all is once you’re aware of it.

    Just to get you comfortable before getting into some real work, you’ll learn about,

    • What the Status Bar is and how it can work for you.
    • Basic navigation and some keyboard shortcuts.
    • How to use the File menu.
    • How to set some of the more important features in the Word Options settings.

    MS Word 365 102: Styles & Templates Outline

    I’ll bet you thought you learned everything in the Word 365 101: Getting Started class, right? Well, that wasn’t even the tip of the iceberg! I hope that if you were tempted to skip that course because you’ve been using Word for awhile, that you decide to go back and, at the very least, review the supporting document. Everything you learn here, is going to take off from what you learn there.

    MS Excel 365 101: Formatting & Formulas Outline

    I’ll bet you’re like a lot of other people who stay away from Excel because you believe you have to be really good at math to understand it. Yeah, I get it, I used to think that too. But guess what? That’s not true. Excel is set up so we all get to start at the same level no matter how far you went up in math classes in high school. From basic adding & subtracting to Calculus, everyone has to start at the same place in this application. Is that a relief or what?

    So you all have to start with the basics of learning what’s going on with this screen: You know, things like,

    • Rows and Columns and Cells
    • The Formula Bar.
    • How to move around in all those squares (aka, cells)
    • How to type in this crazy looking screen.
    • Changing widths of the columns and why you need to do that.

    Then we get into formulas.

    Once you’re comfortable knowing the secret of how these are created in Excel, you’ll be on your way to making the application sing and dance.  You’ll learn,

    • The term PEMDAS and why it matters.
    • The only two methods for creating formulas.
    • And a few shortcuts to doing calculations without even typing a formula.

    After getting all excited that formulas are much easier than you might’ve thought, we’ll then have you cool down with some fun formatting techniques.

    • You can do it by the cell.
    • You can set rules.
    • And you can do it by the “table.”  (A very cool shortcut!)

    Lastly, you’ll need to learn how to print out the final product, so we’ll definitely go over that.
